PARENT INFORMATION
North Brisbane Children’s Contact Service provides a safe environment which nurtures the right of children and youth to have contact with their parents and significant others in their lives. We aim to minimise a child’s exposure to conflict or unsafe situations when parents are separating or have separated. This service provides supervised parenting time for parents/carers the child/ren do not live with and significant family members in the child’s life.
Depending on how long it takes a parent or carer to book their intake interview, will determine how long the process takes. Confidentiality does not allow us to disclose if the other parent has completed their intake appointment. You will be hearing from the service once parents have completed this process.
North Brisbane Children’s Contact Service conducts supervised parenting time in the community based in Strathpine QLD 4500. Venues in the community include parks, fishing, shopping, lunch and dinners, libraries . . . that are organised by this service. Our hours vary accordingly to your needs and most importantly the needs of your children.
Once parents/carers have completed their intake interview, we then follow the children’s contact centre process. Parents/carers will be contacted in writing if they have been accepted or not, into the service.
If accepted a day and time for the first visit is organised and a child orientation for the child/ren is arranged with the parent, the child/ren live with. The child orientation takes place prior to the first visit.
If not accepted into the children’s contact centre the parent/carer will be referred to their lawyer or referring agency. Supervised visitation and changeovers may begin after these steps have been completed.
COMMUNICATION BETWEEN PARENTS
We encourage parents to communicate with each other in a positive and effective manner, through the use of a communication book. The communication book is about the children with regards to their needs. Medical issues or what the children have been doing since the last time the other parent was with the child/ren. A communication book is not about child support, court matters or money. It’s about your children. Children’s Support Workers will not pass messages between parents.
Family Court Orders, Parenting Plans or Written Agreements may already state parents/carers are to communicate via email or text. Please continue to follow your written agreements.
